Drukpa Tsezhi (the fourth day of the sixth month in the Bhutanese calendar) is one of the major events in the Buddhist community. It is observed to celebrate the auspicious day when Lord Buddha gave his first sermon on the Four Noble Truths to his first five disciples at the Deer Park in Sarnath. This year’s “Drukpa Tsezhi” falls on Saturday, 22nd July 2023.

We are delighted to announce that Khamsum Zilnon Drukpai Lhakhang Inc., in collaboration with the Choekhor Foundation, is organizing a special event to mark this occasion. It is with great pleasure that we introduce His Eminence the 2nd Trulku Jampel Tenpai Khorlo, who has graciously consented to bless and grace the event.

We are honored to have His Eminence the 2nd Trulku Jampel Tenpai Khorlo of Tashi Dhedhenling Monastery of Nyingmapa order of Buddhism, join us for this auspicious celebration. H.E. Trulku was born in 1972 to His Holiness the late Samtruel Rinpoche, who is believed to be the reincarnation of Lhalung Pelgyi Dorji, one of the 25 disciples of Guru Rinpoche, and Yum late Pema Choden in Begana, Thimphu district.

From an early age, H.E. Trulku embarked on his Buddhist education under the guidance of the late Rinpoche. He revealed his birth lineage and declared himself as the incarnation of Lama Jampel Sherab Yoezer, the Tsa Wai Lama (Root Guru) of Thangtong Gyalpo Rinpoche. Lama Jampel Sherab Yoezer, a highly realized Lama, received teachings from accomplished teachers of various sects and attracted numerous disciples, including Thangtong Gyalpo Rinpoche. At the age of 5, the Trulku expressed his heartfelt sorrow, saying, “My Monastery in Tibet has been destroyed, and the Monastery where I am presently resides belongs to my father. When I grow up, I shall find a suitable place to build my own monastery and enroll as many monks as possible to spread the Buddha dharma.”

At the age of 7, the young Trulku insisted on visiting Thangtong Gyalpo Rinpoche at his Monastery in Zulikha, Thimphu, even though nobody had informed him about the Rinpoche. Despite his father’s refusal due to the darkness of the evening, the determined Trulku sneaked out of his room at dawn and made his way to Thangtong Rinpoche’s presence. After an hour or two, they realized that the young Trulku was missing. The Trulku’s father sent an attendant to find him, and to their surprise, the attendant discovered the Trulku sitting in Thangtong Rinpoche’s room. Thangtong Rinpoche acknowledged the Trulku as the true reincarnation of his root guru and instructed the attendant to urge the Trulku’s father to enthrone him at the earliest. H.H. the late Thangtong Gyalpo Rinpoche formally recognized him as the incarnation of Lama Jampel Sharab Yoezer. Just before his enthronement, while taking a bath, he told his mother that if she had any doubts about his incarnation, she could go outside and witness the sun encircled by a rainbow, an auspicious sign confirming his true nature.

The Trulku pursued his studies diligently, learning Ngag Droen (Orthography) and various grammar texts under the guidance of H.H. the late Je Khenpo Geyshe Guden Rinchen. He also delved into the intricacies of astrology through his studies at Gangtey Gonpa Shedra. His educational journey extended to Ngagyur Nyingma College in Mysore, South India, where he focused on Sutra and Tantra studies.

Throughout his spiritual path, H.E. Trulku received profound initiations and teachings from esteemed masters. These included the complete initiation of Rinchen Terzoed (a collection of treasure texts) from H.H. Dodrupchen Rinpoche and Taklung Tsetruel Rinpoche, the teachings and guidance of Nam Choe Tsa Lung Bab Thrul (Sky treasure of Channel and Energy) from His Holiness Drupwang Pema Norbu Rinpoche, and twenty-three initiations on Ter Kha (Treasure revealed by Khenpo Jigphen) from H.E. Khenpo Jigme Phuntsho Rinpoche. Additionally, he received teachings on Dzogchen (Great Perfection) from Nulsho Khen Rinpoche and comprehensive teachings of Ja Tshen Pae Dru (Six Collective Texts composed by Jatson Nyingpo), among many others, from his late father. H.E. Trulku also had the honor of receiving the initiation of Kalachakra (Time Machine Tantra) and White Tara from His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Currently, H.E. Trulku Rinpoche resides in Tashi Dhedhenling Monastery, Wangbarma, Thimphu, together with a community of around twenty monks.

We extend a warm invitation to the Bhutanese community and devotees to join us in this grand celebration and lend their support.
